Those reactions which involve oxidation and reduction both simultaneously are known as oxidation reduction or redox reactions.

Oxidation Reaction 

• Addition of oxygen.
• Removal of electron.
• Addition of high electronegative atom 
• Removal of hydrogen.
• Increase in oxidation number.

 Reduction Reaction

• Addition of hydrogen.
• Removal of oxygen.
• Addition of electron.
• Removal of high electronegative atom.
• Addition of high electropositive atom
• Decrease in oxidation number.
