What are Meso Compounds?
Compounds which have two or more chiral center (carbon) along with plane of symmetry (pos) or center of symmetry (cos) are known as Meso Compounds.
Here are few examples which are Meso Compounds:-
Meso compounds are optically inactive due to internal compensation.
Some compound doesn't have chiral center but have pos and they are Meso compounds.
For example inositol
Inositol is a meso compound but it doesn't fullfill above condition.
So the actual defination of Meso Compounds is :-
Those compounds which are optically inactive but have atleast one stereoisomer which is optically active are known as Meso Compounds.
This is the stereoisomer of Inositol which is optically active, due to this inositol is Meso Compounds.
